Getting out on the water can be a lot of fun, but as we all know, there’s a lot of risks involved, not only in case of emergencies but when some breaks or leaves you stranded when you can least afford it.
Luckily, there’s a variety of devices to keep you from getting lost. Not only do these devices provide access to messaging services, no matter where you are, they also include excellent tracking features, making it much easier to keep in touch and on track while you’re out on the water.
One of the most impressive devices has to be the Sport X Satellite tracker and messenger as it provides all the features you need in a small and easy to use a hand-held device. It’s about the size of a smartphone and includes a larger screen to help you switch between options and features in an instant. It doesn’t have a touch screen, which is recommended for sailors as the trusted buttons never fail, even when it’s wet, or you have gloves on.
It offers a rugged and robust design with bright orange colours that makes it easy to see. It also works great for other forms of adventure sports, including hiking, biking, endurance riding and much more. Let’s check out some of the features.
Creating contacts on the device is as easy as linking your social account or contacts list on the website under My Account. You can create new contacts on the device itself as well by adding mobile numbers, email addresses and more.
This allows you to message any of the contacts via satellite, no matter where you are, even areas where your smartphone doesn’t have reception anymore. The full keyboard makes it easy to type, and the feel of the buttons gives you the satisfying confirmation with each button you press.
With the messages you send, you can even attach your current location, which comes through as a link to Google maps on the recipient’s mobile device.
The S.O.S. feature is one of the most important, which is why the Sport X has two ways to activate the feature. First, you can trigger the function in the menu, or you can use the built-in button on the left, which is situated under a protective flap to avoid accidentally pressing the button.
This doesn’t send an emergency to friends or family but is connected to the GEOS international helpline instead, which would also include your location so they can find you. It’s not recommended to test the feature as it’s always active and would trigger a rescue response.
Check-in and Tracking
The check-in feature is great to keep friends and family up to date on your adventure. It sends a pre-set message to up to 10 people with your location and a message that lets them know everything is okay.
On top of the mentioned features, the device also keeps track of your adventure and allows you to use it should you get lost. It also includes loads of other unique details about the trip, letting you see where you went, how far and more tracking details.
